Ingredients

  • 6 apples
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats
  • 3/4 tbsp. of ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tbsp. of ground nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup cold butter or margarine

Instructions

  • Preheat the smoker or wood pellet grill to 225 degrees F.
  • Peel the apples and cut into thin slices (8-16 slices per apple depending on the size of your apples).
  • Coat your cast iron skillet with some butter.
  • Pout the apple slices in the pan.
  • Mix the brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a mixing bowl. Whisk until combined.
  • Add in the cubes of cold butter and use two forks or a pastry cutter to cut in the butter until crumble and mixed into the dry ingredients.
  • Pour over the apples in the pan.
  • Transfer out to the smoker and place directly on the grill gates. Close the lid and let cook for 2 hours at 225 degrees F.
  • After 2 hours check your apples if they are pretty much cooked, raise the temperature of the pellet grill to 300 degrees F.
  • Continue to bake for about 30-40 minutes longer until apples are soft and the crisp topping is "crisp" to your liking.
  • Carefully remove pan from smoker and serve with vanilla ice cream and a dash of cinnamon if preferred.

Oven Instructions

  • Follow all of the same steps but bake in the oven at 375 degrees for abut 30-40 minutes.
