- 6 apples
- 3/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats
- 3/4 tbsp. of ground cinnamon
- 3/4 tbsp. of ground nutmeg
- 1/3 cup cold butter or margarine
Preheat the smoker or wood pellet grill to 225 degrees F.
Peel the apples and cut into thin slices (8-16 slices per apple depending on the size of your apples).
Coat your cast iron skillet with some butter.
Pout the apple slices in the pan.
Mix the brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a mixing bowl. Whisk until combined.
Add in the cubes of cold butter and use two forks or a pastry cutter to cut in the butter until crumble and mixed into the dry ingredients.
Pour over the apples in the pan.
Transfer out to the smoker and place directly on the grill gates. Close the lid and let cook for 2 hours at 225 degrees F.
After 2 hours check your apples if they are pretty much cooked, raise the temperature of the pellet grill to 300 degrees F.
Continue to bake for about 30-40 minutes longer until apples are soft and the crisp topping is "crisp" to your liking.
Carefully remove pan from smoker and serve with vanilla ice cream and a dash of cinnamon if preferred.
