Shortcut Halloween Chocolate Brownies

These shortcut Halloween brownies start with a simple boxed mix and get a little extra love with mini chocolate chips, easy cream cheese frosting, and festive purple sprinkles.

Ingredients
  

For the brownies:
  • 1 18.3 oz Box of Brownie Mix (family size)
  • Plus ingredients called for – This one Aldi brand called for: 2 large eggs, ½ cup vegetable oil, and 3 tbsp water
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
For the frosting:
  • 1 16 oz can white frosting
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • Red and yellow food coloring
  • Purple sprinkles or other Halloween colors

Method
 

  1. Make the brownies according to the instructions on your boxed mix.
  2. This box (Aldi brand): In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, vegetable oil, and water.
  3. Mix until well combined.
  4. Add the brownie mix and stir until fully blended.
  5. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 baking dish.
  7. Bake according to the instructions on your specific box (for this one, 350°F for 24–26 minutes) or until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
  8. Let the brownies cool completely before frosting.
Frosting:
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the white frosting and softened cream cheese.
  2. Add a few drops of red and yellow food coloring and beat with a hand mixer until smooth and evenly colored.
  3. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies.
  4. Top with purple or other Halloween-colored sprinkles.
  5. Cut into squares or smaller pieces and serve, or refrigerate until ready to enjoy.
