Michigan Chocolate Cherry Tart

This easy but decadent dessert has a chocolate crust, chocolate ganache filling, and is topped with fresh cherries that are cooked down.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Chill Time 4 hours
Servings: 8 serving
Course: Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made chocolate crumb crust
  • 1 12 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2-2 cups of pitted cherries fresh about 25-30
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Method

For Chocolate Ganache
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream and butter.
  2. Let simmer until butter is melted and cream begins to gently boil.
  3. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips.
  4. Wisk until chocolate chips melt and texture is smooth and thick.
  5. Pour chocolate ganache into prepared chocolate crust.
For Cherry Topping
  1. Wash and pit the cherries by using a straw or cherry pitter.
  2. Add cherries, sugar, and water to sauce pan and heat over medium heat.
  3. Let the fruit cook and break down until the liquids start to thicken. I helped smush the cherries a bit but you can leave them whole if you would like.
  4. Refrigerate both the pie and filling until ready to serve (about 4 hours).
  5. When ready to serve pour mixture over top of pie and slice and serve!

Notes

**can spoon mixture over individual slices as well.
