Homemade Pizza Dough

If you have never made pizza dough at home…you are missing out! Once I made it this past year I wondered why I haven’t made Homemade Pizza Dough before! We have been cooking pizzas more often right on the grill this past Summer so I figured I would share this recipe with you!

I have been trying a few different recipes, and I finally nailed this recipe. This pizza dough recipe is so easy you can whip it up and have it ready to go in an hour. This recipe makes a few dough balls so you can save it for another night or freeze it for later! This dough also is great for pizzas on the grill! How long do you let pizza dough rise?

A lot of pizza dough recipes call for you to let it rise or go in the fridge for 6 hours or so…well I definitely don’t have time for that. I let it rest on the counter for at least an hour until we are ready to fire up the oven or grill.

How to Make Homemade Pizza Dough

This recipe for homemade pizza dough is very simple. I bust out my Kitchen Aid Stand mixer and start with the whip attachment. First add the yeast, salt, rosemary/basil, warm water, sugar, and olive oil. My friend Christie made hers with Rosemary and I loved that idea! You can also add dried basil, garlic powder, or other seasonings of choice.

Start the mixer and let it whisk until all if the ingredients are well combined. Then slowly add in the flour. Switch out to the dough hook.

Mixing pizza dough

Let the mixer do its job and mix for about 5 minutes. Then I transfer the dough to a sprayed bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Leave it on the counter for at least an hour. The dough will double in size.

Then flip out the dough ball onto a floured surface. Cut the dough into how many dough balls you want. I usually get three out of this recipe, the last time I just made two pizzas with it and the dough was a little too much. So I would say 3 is good, if you want smaller pizzas you can get 4 dough balls out of it too!

When you are ready to start cooking, roll out the dough on to your pizza stone or we have been loving deep dish pizza in out cast iron pan!

How to Store Homemade Pizza Dough?

If you aren’t planning on cooking it right away, wrap individual dough balls in plastic wrap. Then either refrigerate for a few days or freeze it for later!

How to roll out your pizza dough like a champ

Most likely you will struggle pushing out the pizza dough onto your pan without it becoming messy or having holes in the dough. Someone I work with showed me how they do it in the restaurants. So first leave it on the flour surface and push the dough around the edge leaving a ball in the center (he said “like a sombrero” So imagine a hat. Then pick it up and keep working the dough around in cirlces as it starts to stretch. Then lay it out on the stone or pan and push it until it fits your pan.

Then deck your pizza out with topping of choice! I also like to spray the crust with olive oil and sprinkle with Everything bagel seasoning. Then cook that bad boy and enjoy!
