What I love about this Stir Fry Recipe with Shrimp

  • Quick & easy dinner that comes together in one pan in under 25 minutes
  • On the healthier side
  • Loaded with shrimp and vegetables

I just received this beautiful new carbon steel WOK and couldn’t wait to try a new stir fry with it! It is a huge pan that made it easy to toss everything together and heat all of the ingredients evenly and quickly. If you don’t have a wok, you can use a cast iron pan for similar results, or just a large pan.

Health benefits of shrimp

I am a huge fan of shrimp. I love those little guys in pasta, dips, or seared and served up along side some steaks. And they are low in calories, carbs, and packed with nutrition. They are big in Omega-3’s which is good for your heart and high in protein. As long as you are preparing them in a somewhat healthier manner, they are great to enjoy without feeling too bad about it! This recipe for shrimp stir fry is on the lighter side and loaded with veggies, too!

Ingredients for shrimp stir fry

Sesame Oil I bought some garlic and ginger flavored sesame oil from a market a few moths back and it added some nice flavor. You can use regular sesame oil, grape-seed oil, or whatever you prefer.

Garlic- Fresh minced garlic is added here for additional health benefits and flavor. You can use jarred stuff if you have it or can even use garlic powder if you don’t have fresh.

Ginger-
Same thing here, fresh ginger provides some depth and health properties. If you don’t keep it in the house often ground ginger can be used.

Red Pepper Flakes-
I love a little heat in everything- you can skip if you want.

Cayenne Pepper-
I had these in my garden this year so wanted to put them to use. They are the small slim red peppers that pack some heat. You can use cayenne pepper powder if you don’t have fresh. Of course can skip it, too. (Thai Chili pepper would work, too)

Stir Fry Vegetables-
I decided to use a bag of frozen stir fry veggies to keep it simple.

Shrimp-
In this recipe I decided to use a bag of frozen raw shrimp that were already peeled and divined.

Soy Sauce- Soy sauce is a necessity in this recipe both in the dish and also to serve with. I always opt for low sodium.

Brown Sugar-
This b=provides a bit of sweetness to the dish that help balance the heat from the red pepper flakes and chili peppers.

Vermicelli Sticks
These are really thin rice noodles. This was my first time cooking with them and like them! You can use the thicker rice noodles or even pasta if you have it.

Step-by-step instructions for making shrimp stir fry

Step 1: Heat Oil & Cook Vegetables

First step is to heat up your wok or pan over medium -high heat. Add the oil and let it start to smoke. Add in the garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and cayenne pepper if using. Sauté for a couple of minutes until fragrant. Then add in the bag of frozen vegetables. Stir and let cook about 5 minutes until the vegetables are warmed throughout. There will be water in the pan from them- that’s okay.
