Why I love these Heart Shaped Rice Krispies
I remember making holiday themed Rice Krispie treats with my mom when I was in grade school. We would always make heart shaped ones or four leaf clover ones for Saint Patrick’s Day. I know they are a simple treat, but they are festive and of course delicious. Plus anything that brings up child hood memories is a bonus. So if you have little ones at home, or just feel like making something cute, these heart treats are a great choice!
Ingredients for these Dipped Heart Shaped Rice Krispie Treats
- Rice Cereal
- Butter
- Mini Marshmallows
- Red food coloring
- Pink Candy Melts or white chocolate
- Red & Pink sprinkles
These heart shaped Rice Krispies treats dipped in pink candy melts make the perfect fun Valentine’s Day treat. I have used the pink melts or you could use white chocolate/ vanilla bark with a few drops of red food coloring instead.
How to Make Heart Shaped Rice Krispie Treats
First lay out some parchment or wax paper into your 9×13 baking dish (or butter the pan). Grab out a large pot and turn the heat to low on the stove and add in the butter. Add in the mini marshmallows and let melt, stirring once in a while.
Then add a few drops of red food coloring to your liking (go lighter for pink, or can make them red as well). Add in the rice cereal and stir until well combined. Then pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. I like to spray my hands with some non stick spray and press down into the pan. Let set for 30-60 minutes.
Remove the treats from the pan out onto a cutting board. Spray your heart cookie cutter with some non stick spray and cut out as many as you can into hearts.
How do you cut Rice Krispie treats neatly?
Wait for the Right Time:
Before cutting your Rice Krispies treats, it is crucial to allow them sufficient time to set and cool completely. This usually takes around 30 minutes but may vary based on room temperature or recipe modifications. Cutting them prematurely may result in squished or sticky bars.
Choose the Right Tools:
To achieve clean cuts, having the right tools is essential. A sharp knife with a non-stick coating or silicone spatula works best for cutting through the sticky mixture without leaving residue behind.
Grease Your Tools:
Before making any cuts, lightly grease your knife or spatula with cooking spray or butter. This prevents sticking and helps the tool glide smoothly through the treat’s surface.
Decorating Rice Krispie Treats
Place some parchment paper on a baking sheet, plate, or counter. Melt the candy melts according to package instructions. I used the microwave in 30 second intervals.
Then dip each heart Rice Krispies into the melted candy, set on parchment paper, and add sprinkles before the candy sets.
