Of course you could eliminate the booze for a kid friendly punch, but this Halloween Party drink is where its at! Fruit punch gets an added kick and then is garnished with some dry ice for a fun spooky effect!
I had to make a recipe with dry ice for a project and had some leftover and knew I couldn’t resist a Halloween Drink Idea with it! I was stressed out buying it and handling it but once I realized it wasn’t so scary- I knew I had to share this idea with you! You could totally make this Vampire’s Kiss Spiked Punch in a large bowl for serving to guests but I didn’t want to waste my alcohol to create this cocktail recipe. So I just did a single serving for me but I will include how to turn it into a punch bowl, too!
What you need for this Vampire’s Kiss Spiked Punch
- Vodka
- Spiced Rum
- Minute Maid Fruit Punch (or similar)
- Lime
- Dry Ice for garnish (optional)
- fun glasses or cups for serving
- Plastic Eyeballs for Garnish if desired
What is Dry Ice?
Okay to be honest I had no idea what dry ice was, what to do with, how to store it, how to handle it, etc! But thanks to some helpful tips online I made it through the process. Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide and is SUPER frozen/cold so requires special handling. It costed me about $3 for a 1 lb block of it.
Where to buy dry ice?
I called around to several grocery stores but our local Meijer has it for sale to the public. They had it at the front of the store near customer service. I just brought a small cooler and towel to place it in after purchasing.
How to handle Dry Ice?
The important thing about handling dry ice is to not let it touch your skin because it will cause your skin to burn. I actually stepped on a tiny piece with bare feet and it hurt (for sure). So make sure to wear some gloves or handle it with some tongs, etc. ALSO it is important to keep it in a ventilated area because of the fumes. I left it outside in the cooler with the lid open until I was ready to use it. I broke it into pieces by dropping the bag onto the cement. Then I use a tong to transfer the pieces into the cocktail.
Also- you will want to use the dry ice the day that you get it within a few hours.
Is it safe to put Dry Ice in cocktails?
YES! I saw mixed answers on this. But it is safe to consume after the piece dissolves. The important part is not swallowing a piece of the dry ice in its frozen form. So after it bubbles and fogs and dissolves, the cocktail is good to drink.
How to make this fun Vampire’s Kiss Spiked Punch Halloween Cocktail with Dry Ice
Okay now that the safety part is through- let’s talk about how to make this Halloween cocktail recipe!
First, carefully break the dry ice into pieces by taking the bag out of the cooler and then dropping it on the ground. Being sure not to touch with bare hands. NOTE** Wear gloves or some type of protection just in case). ( I used ….socks LOL because I couldn’t find any gloves at the moment.) They also say to protect yourself with glasses or a mask but I didn’t. If you break it in the bag outside you should be fine.
Next make your cocktail in your glass of choice with regular Ice, the liquors, and the Fruit Punch. Squeeze a little lime juice in there.
Next transfer the dry ice into the house and using a tong or large spoon, scoop a piece of the dry ice out of the bag and carefully add to the cocktail. It will immediately start to bubble and smoke!
Once the dry ice dissolves completely- enjoy! 🙂 CHEERS
How to make this Halloween Cocktail into a Punch for a Party
SO this recipe can easily be transformed in to a punch bowl for serving for a Halloween Party Drink! Just add the liquor and Fruit Punch to a punch bowl. You can use the whole 2 liter of Fruit punch and just add as much liquor to your liking. Squeeze a whole lime into for the juice.(OR you could leave the liquor out and have people add their own to their liking.) Then just add the dry ice in pieces into the punch and as it dissolves continue to add into pieces to keep the “smoking and bubbling” effect going throughout the party!
