Whether you’re hosting a party or simply looking for a tasty treat to enjoy at home, smoked trout dip is the perfect choice for seafood lovers and food enthusiasts alike.

Why I Like This Smoked Trout Spread

I make a smoked salmon and cream cheesed dip every time we smoke some salmon on the Traeger. It is so tasty and a great appetizer for friends and family. A few weeks back there was some fresh Rainbow Trout on sale at our fish market. I grabbed some just to try something different. Then I made this quick and easy spread with the smoked trout. Seriously, just 5 ingredients, one bowl, and so delicious. This recipe works with store bought smoked salmon or trout as well.

Ingredients Needed For This Dip

  • Smoked Trout or Salmon– I smoked the trout myself but of course if you have a fishery you can buy some. Or if you have leftover smoked salmon (or store bought).
  • Chive & Onion Cream Cheese– I love this flavor from Philadelphia. It has all the flavors I am looking for keeping this recipe a quick and easy one. If you can’t find it, regular cream cheese works you could just chop up some green onions or chives in there as well.
  • Lemon– I used the juice from half a lemon to cut any “fishy taste” and give it a burst of citrus flavor.
  • Salt & Pepper– I kept it simple with just some salt and pepper for seasonings. You can spruce it up more with garlic powder or whatever you like.

How to Make Smoked Trout Dip

First remove the fish from the skin and shred it into pieces. Then remove the cap and foil of the Chive & Onion Cream Cheese and microwave it for about 20 seconds until softened. Grab a medium bowl and add in the fish, softened cream cheese, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.

Mix until everything is well combined. Taste and add more salt and pepper if desired. You can garnish with some fresh green onions or chives if you want to fancy it up a bit. Then serve right away or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

I like to serve this shortcut smoked trout dip with crackers and some soft French bread. You could easily out this in a tortilla for a wrap for lunch as well.

I personally would enjoy this trout (or salmon) dip within 3 days for best taste. Up to five days in a sealed container in the fridge will work, too!
