Nothing warms the body like a warm, hearty, and nutritious bowl of homemade potato soup. This Cream of Potato Soup with Ham recipe is perfect with leftover ham from the holidays or even thick cut ham from the deli. This is really easy to make and delicious.
This is a very easy soup that can be produced in less than 30 minutes. I made this soup with the smoked ham from our Christmas dinner and it was a hit. So I figured I would share this easy Cream of Potato Soup with Ham recipe with you. Just six ingredients (which if you know me by now, you know I love a simple recipe).
Equipment Needed for this easy Cream of Potato Soup with Ham
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Medium sized Pot
- Immersion Blender (if you have one but not necessary)
This is actually the first time I used my immersion blender and it was super easy to incorporate the ingredients. But if you do not have one, this recipe is still easy to make. You will just mix the chicken soup and milk together then add it into the soup and stir until combined. When I used the immersion blender if zizzed up the potatoes and I like chunks in my soups so I didn’t over do it I just used it enough to mix everything together.
How to make this Cream of Potato and Ham Soup
First chop up your ham, potatoes, and onions. In a medium sized pot, sauté the onions in a small amount of extra virgin olive oil.
Next add in the potatoes, ham, and water. Then let the the mixture cook, covered, for about 15 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
If using an immersion blender, add in the chicken soup and the cans of milk and blend until desired consistency. If you do not have one just whisk the soup and milk together and whisk in or use a spoon and stir until combined.
Season with some salt and pepper to taste. Then heat the soup throughout but do not boil. I added some shredded cheese at the end but it is not necessary. Serve hot with extra pepper, cheese, and crackers!
Additions & Substitutions:
- Other veggies that would work would be diced carrots or peas for color and added nutrition.
- Want this a meatless option? Leave out the ham.
- Want a different protein? Add some cooked chopped bacon or even make it with chicken!
